Cedarville girls district champions without playing a game (with photos)

Wednesday night’s girls’ basketball district final, between Mackinac Island and Cedarville has been cancelled, as the Lakers opted out of the tournament. This means the Trojans are district champions in Division 4, District 102, without having taken the court, and advance to the regional semifinal on Monday at Sault Ste. Marie.

Mackinac Island, joins Pickford and DeTour, as other schools in the girls’ district who will not participate in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s postseason, due to COVID-19 protocols and/or lack of numbers. They join both the Brimley boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, and the Sault High boys, who found out earlier this week they would not be able to play playoff basketball this season, due to COVID-19.

Rudyard will travel to Newberry in girls’ basketball, for the Division 4, District 101 final on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The winner of that game will advance to the regional semifinal game in Sault Ste. Marie next Monday at 5:30 pm.

The Sault High girls’ basketball team will open up district play on Wednesday, as they take on Kalkaska in Division 2, District 34, at Cheboygan. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the tip-off show at 5:15 pm. The winner advances to the district final in Cheboygan on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The St. Ignace girls, in Division 3, District 67, will open up district play on Wednesday, as they will be at Harbor Springs, in a district semifinal at 6:00 p.m.

In boys’ basketball district action from Tuesday night, DeTour topped Mackinac Island, 73-25. They advance to the Division 4, District 102 semifinal on Thursday night at Mackinaw City. The other district semifinal sees Cedarville travel to Pickford, on Thursday at 6 pm. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason and Ray Bell, starting with the pregame show at 5:45 pm. The district final is scheduled for Saturday at 7 pm.

Rudyard will host Ojibway Charter on Thursday night at 7:00 pm in a boys’ basketball semifinal, in Division 4, District 101. The other district semifinal sees Newberry traveling to Engadine.

The St. Ignace boys’ team will begin district play on Thursday as they host Johannesburg-Lewiston at 6:00 pm, in Division 3, District 67.
