Bulldogs claim district basketball title (with photos)

The Rudyard Bulldogs girls’ basketball team won the Division 4, District 101 title on Wednesday night in Newberry, as they cruised to a 74-38 win over the Indians. Rudyard advances to the Division 4, Region 26 semifinal on Monday night against Cedarville. That game will be played at the Sault High Gymnasium at 5:30 pm. You can hear it on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show at 5:15 pm.

Wednesday night’s girls’ basketball district final, between Mackinac Island and Cedarville was cancelled, as the Lakers opted out of the tournament. This means the Trojans are district champions in Division 4, District 102, without having taken the court, and advance to the regional semifinal on Monday at Sault Ste. Marie against Rudyard.

The Sault High girls’ basketball opened up district play in Division 2, District 34, as they topped Kalkaska, 74-34 in a semifinal game. The Blue Devils advance to the district final on Friday against Cheboygan. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO, with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the tip-off show at 6:45 pm.

The St. Ignace girls opened up play in Division 3, District 67, as they routed Harbor Springs, 65-16, in a semifinal game. They advance to the district final on Friday against host Johannesburg-Lewiston at 6:00 pm.

Boys’ basketball districts resume on Thursday night. In Division 4, District 102, Cedarville will face Pickford in a semifinal game at DeTour at 5:00 pm, with the Mackinaw City vs. DeTour game to follow around 7:00 pm. You can hear both games as part of an EUP Game of the Week double header, on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show at 4:45 pm. The district final is scheduled to be played on Saturday at 7:00 pm in either DeTour or Cedarville.

Rudyard will host Ojibway Charter on Thursday night at 7:00 pm in a boys’ basketball semifinal, in Division 4, District 101. The other district semifinal sees Newberry traveling to Engadine.

The St. Ignace boys’ team will begin district play on Thursday as they host Johannesburg-Lewiston at 6:00 pm, in Division 3, District 67.
