Jack Swan

Jack W. Swan, 88, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday February 9th in Sault Sainte Marie, MI.

Jack was born in Sturgeon Bay, WI on September 10th, 1932, to Allen Swan and Karen (Lindquist) Swan. Though he was born in Sturgeon Bay, Jack was raised in Sault Sainte Marie, MI. He was the third oldest out of six. Jack served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956, stationed aboard the USS Wasp. A short while after, he married Hilkka (Muhonen) Swan on September 19th, 1959.

In 1975, they moved back to Sault Sainte Marie when he purchased a small party store in Brimley, MI, and named it Swan Market. Though he always enjoyed bowling, upon retirement Jack enjoyed watching the freighters on the St. Mary’s River, was an avid wooden model boat builder, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with his beloved family and friends, watching the Green Bay Packers and Red Wings games, and enjoyed his Sunday VFW visits with his favorite bartender, Cathy Rogers.
Jack is survived by his children Vicki Steele, husband Mike, Julie Bentley, husband Bill, Mark Swan, wife Traci, Kelli Swan, fiancé John McCollum; grandchildren Sam, Danni, Megan, Bree, Hanna, Lindsey, and Jack; great grandchild Waylon; siblings Nancy Darling, Dan Swan and wife SueAnn, and Barbara Lisiecki and husband Lou, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
