After waiting for months, the winter high school basketball season finally got underway last night for teams across the state of Michigan and in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

In boys basketball from Monday night, the Rudyard Bulldogs knocked off the Sault High Blue Devils, 51-43 in Straits Area Conference play. The next action for the Blue Devils will be on Wednesday when they host Cheboygan. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson and Ray Bell. Rudyard will travel to Cedarville on Wednesday, a game you can hear on Country 105, in the EUP Game of the Week with Matt Pocket. In other boys action, Newberry fell at Cheboygan, 50-42, while Maplewood Baptist were victorious in Big Bay de Noc, 61-28.

The Sault High girls basketball team traveled to Rudyard on Monday night and were victorious, topping the Bulldogs, 72-50. Maplewood Baptist were defeated by Big Bay de Noc, 39-32.

The Sault High Blue Devil hockey team will start their season at home on Wednesday as they face the Cheboygan Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. You can hear the call of that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson.
