Blue Devils knock off Saints in early season clash

The Sault High Blue Devil girls basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season on Friday night in girls high school basketball, after wins against Rudyard on Monday and Cheboygan on Wednesday, the Blue Devils topped Straits Area Conference rival St. Ignace, 57-52. The Blue Devils next action will be Monday night at home against Marquette, you can hear that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson and Ray Bell starting with the pre-game show at 6:15.

The Blue Devils were the only EUP girls team in action on Friday night. On Thursday, Pickford improved to 2-0 in Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference  play, as they won at DeTour, 74-32. The Panthers are home to Brimley on Thursday while DeTour (0-1) is home to Mid Peninsula on Saturday. Cedarville improved to 1-1 on the season Thursday, as they defeated Brimley, 43-12. The Trojans are at Newberry on Tuesday while Brimley (0-1) are at the Sault on Tuesday. In Straits Area Conference play on Thursday in girls basketball, Newberry knocked off Rudyard 50-45.

In boys basketball from Friday night, Sault High earned their first win of the season at home, defeating St. Ignace, 56-41. Sault High (1-2) is at Escanaba on Wednesday, while St. Ignace (0-1) is home on Saturday to Indian River Inland Lakes. Rudyard improved to 3-0 on the young season, as they topped Newberry at home, 47-28. The Bulldogs are at DeTour on Wednesday, while Newberry (1-2) hosts St. Ignace on Monday. DeTour opened up their season at the Purple Palace in Pickford on Friday, and defeated the host Panthers, 56-46. DeTour (1-0) is home to Mid Peninsula on Saturday, while Pickford (0-2) is home to Brimley on Tuesday. 

We will have more high school sports, along with other local, regional and national sports Monday night on ESPN 1400 with “The Game” from 6-8 p.m.
