John Robert Causley, 56, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on September 12, 2026. He was born on a stormy night in Petoskey, Michigan, on January 18, 1970, to his father John Causley Jr., who preceded him in death, and his mother, Janice Jonas

John grew up in Hessel, Michigan, and the surrounding area. He attended Cedarville schools. In school, he played Basketball, Baseball, and Football, which began a lifelong enjoyment of sports.

Following high school, John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993. He was proud of his service and treasured the friendships he formed with fellow Marines, several of which remained an important part of his life long after his service ended

Following his time in the service, John returned to St. Ignace Michigan and began his lifelong passion and profession of carpentry. He was very meticulous in the work he did and made a very positive impact on many lives over the 34 years he worked in Northern Michigan.

Outside of work, John enjoyed golfing, traveling, and, especially, fishing. He shared many adventures with the love of his life, Kristi Harwood-Causley. He had a feisty spirit, a stubborn streak his family knew well, and a generous heart. Those closest to him knew that alongside his determination was a protector and a man willing to help not only the people he loved, but people he barely knew

Most of all, John loved his family. He was an exceptional grandparent to 11 grandchildren, and he prioritized his family over all else. He cared deeply about his parents, siblings, children, and loved his wife of 15 years more than words could describe.

John is survived by his wife Kristi, mother Janice Jonas, father in-law Daniel Harwood (Jane), his children; Madysin Causley, Taylor Causley, Shannon McMillan, step-children Robert Little (Rachelle), Richard Little (Chelsea), his siblings; Lana Causley-Smith (Steve), Theresa Causley, Lucinda McFarland (Richard), Crystal Causley, Miranda Causley, Shalenia Causley, Michael Causley, and his grandchildren; Asher Causley, Layla Cooper, Tyler Richardson, Tameria Richardson, Joey McMillan, Jaylyn McMillan, Dani Little, Janie Little, Zoey Kelly, Isla Baltz, Lincoln Little and many special nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Sault Tribe Cultural Center Niigaanagiizhik Ceremonial Building, 11 Ice Circle Chi Mukwa, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. The memorial service will start at 1:00 PM, followed by a luncheon.
