As we announced a few weeks ago, Dafter Fire was awarded a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to replace our 40-year-old tanker. Our current tanker is a converted U.S. Navy fuel truck. It was never designed to be a fire apparatus, and after four decades it lacks the safety features our firefighters need and has become unsafe to operate.
After extensive research, countless truck committee meetings and working closely with FEMA, we’re proud to share that we signed a contract with Pierce Mfg / Reliant Fire Apparatus for a new tanker!
This truck will bring major safety improvements for our firefighters and for the community we serve.
Pictured is a similar truck Pierce recently completed.
Pierce Tanker specs:
Freightliner tandem-axle chassis
Cummins L9 diesel engine
Waterous 1,000 GPM water pump
3,000-gallon water tank
Extensive winter operations package
Extra scene and warning lights for our rural area
Portable drop tank on passenger side
22 feet of hard suction for drafting operations
A huge thank you to FEMA and the AFG program for making this possible, and to our community for your continued support. We’ll share updates as the build progresses, so stay tuned!
