Obituary For Eileen Marie Osterhout

Eileen Marie Osterhout was called home to her Lord and Saving Grace on April 19, 2024, at the age of 94.

Eileen was born on March 7 or 8, 1930 in Barbeau, Michigan, to Joseph and Dorothy Desarmeaux. The youngest of 3 girls, she spent her days with her sisters Eleanor and Ella helping on the family farm. At 17 she moved to the "city" of Sault Ste. Marie, where she would later meet her husband Gordon Osterhout and wed on June 19,1948. She and Gordon went on to have 6 wonderful children, Denny (Brenda) Osterhout of Petoskey MI, Bryce (Denise) Osterhout of Pickford, MI, Janet (John) Madl of Sault Ste. Marie MI, Carol Bernhardt of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Brent (Susan) Osterhout of Rogers City, MI and Roger (Sharion) Osterhout of Petoskey, MI. Eileen was a very loved Grandmother to 28 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Additionally, she had many loved nieces, nephews, and dear friends to call family.

Eileen had many passions in life. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards, watching birds, and tending to her garden. She was known for hosting many family functions and making the very best baked goods, especially her lemon meringue pie. She was a very talented homemaker. She could always be found with a project in hand. braiding rugs, sewing quilts, crocheting afghans, and many more.

Eileen was a very devoted Catholic and spent many years as part of the St. Mary's congregation of Sault Ste. Marie.

Hard work was never feared by her. She obtained her High School Diploma at the age of 35, held several different job positions as secretary and bookkeeper, but most notably she spent many years employed at the Provincial House sharing her passion for cooking as a dietary aid.

In her later years she took every opportunity to travel the United States making friends everywhere she went.

Eileen was proceeded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM from 2:00 PM at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 PM.

The family of Eileen would like to send a special Thank You to the staff and volunteers of the Hospice House EUP who work tirelessly helping families depart from their loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Eileen can be made to the Hospice House EUP at 308 West 12th St., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
