Obituaries

Charles Ambrose Ranson, age 44, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died on September 8, 2026, in Grand Rapids. He was born on June 7, 1982, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Robert Bernard Ranson and Danette Nell Mills.

Charles grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School in 2001. He went on to attend Lake Superior State University, where he studied mechanical engineering. Charles had a natural talent for mechanical design and drawing, earning prizes for his mechanical drawings and proudly placing third in the State of Michigan.

Charles enjoyed staying active and spending time outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, as well as playing hockey, football, and basketball. He also was an excellent swimmer and took great pride in his exceptional skill with a bow and arrow.

Charles is survived by his parents, Robert and Danette; brothers, James Dean and Aaron Ranson of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Lewis Gravelle of Constantine, Michigan; aunts, Valerie Ranson, Lachelle (David) Hoover, and Marion Ranson; uncles, Bryan ChiKovich Rubinstein, Dennis Ranson, Kim (Tracey) Mills, and David (Sharon) Mills.

Charles was preceded in death by his aunt, Patricia Perry, and Dawn DuPlont; and uncles, Benson Mills, Charles Ranson, and David Ranson.
