Democratic candidate Eli Savit has won the race for attorney general, handing Democrats another statewide win and keeping the three constitutional statewide offices all in the same party.
The race was decided by a closer margin than the secretary of state’s race, Savit taking 51.8% percent of the vote with Republican candidate Doug Lloyd taking 45.5% of the vote, with 84% of the vote counted.
The Washtenaw County prosecutor will succeed Attorney General Dana Nessel, running on many of the same platforms as her: fighting actions from the federal government, checking utility companies and opposing corporate interest.
The attorney general race has historically followed the top of the ticket and national sentiment and the state and country overwhelmingly went for Democrats on Tuesday.
Still, the race between Lloyd and Savit has been close throughout the cycle, with many polls showing a statistical tie between the two with a slight lead for Savit, a much narrower polling margin than the governor’s race and the secretary of state race.
