ANN ARBOR, MI — U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, is returning to Congress for another two years.
Dingell fended off five challengers in the Nov. 3 election to win her seventh term.
She was up against the U.S. Taxpayers Party’s Michael Mickevicius, the Working Class Party’s Linda Rayburn, the Green Party’s Clyde Shabazz, Republican Heather Smiley and Libertarian Timothy Teagan.
The Associated Press called the race for Dingell, reporting she had 67% of the vote with 94% of ballots counted.
Michigan’s 6th Congressional District is heavily Democratic. It covers all of Washtenaw County, including Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline, Chelsea, Dexter and Milan, and stretches east to Downriver communities such as Grosse Ile, Trenton, Riverview, Woodhaven and Gibraltar.
It also includes communities such as Belleville, Canton, Plymouth, Northville and Novi.
Dingell’s platform includes fighting for working families, protecting the Great Lakes, lowering healthcare costs, improving infrastructure and creating jobs by supporting manufacturing and leveling the playing field for workers.
An advocate for civil discourse, she also maintains Democrats and Republicans in Washington should be able to disagree without being disagreeable.
