Chippewa County Sheriff, Mike Bitnar, Announces Retirement

It is with a humble heart that I’m officially announcing my retirement from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, effective 1-2-2027.

It is hard to believe that my career began with the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office in June of 1991. I have been honored to serve the citizens of Chippewa County for 35 ½ years.

I have worked very hard throughout my career. I’ve worked in Corrections, Law Enforcement (Uniform division), drug team, Detective Sergeant, and Undersheriff. Oct of 2016 I was sworn in as Sheriff for the first time.

It is my recommendation to the appointing committee that Undersheriff Ryan Hering to be appointed to fill my position. He would have my full support, and, with their blessing, I would be able to retire knowing that I am leaving the office in great hands.

The people working for our Office are what makes it so great. We have some of the most dedicated employees here and I will miss them all.

I was always told that you will know when the time is right to retire. Well, the time is right. I plan on spending quality time with family and friends as well as taking some time for myself.

It has been a privilege to be part of such an amazing office, and I thank you all for your support over the years.

Thank you.

Michael D. Bitnar
