Sault Ste. Marie couple faces abuse charges after home deemed unfit for occupancy

SAULT STE. MARIE — Angela Lynn Bell and Larry Louis Bell were arrested Saturday by officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department on outstanding warrants.

The arrests are connected to an incident on Sept. 11, 2025, when a Sault Ste. Marie residence was declared unsafe for human occupancy and the couple now faces felony child abuse and misdemeanor vulnerable adult abuse charges.

The warrants for Bell and Bell were issued out of the 91st District Court in Chippewa County. Both have been charged with one felony count of Child Abuse-2nd Degree and one misdemeanor count of Vulnerable Adult Abuse-4th Degree (Domestic Relationship).

On Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a man went the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department asking for assistance. Sault Fire Ambulance responded and took the man to the hospital.

Officers were then granted a search warrant for the home the man came from. The conditions inside did not appear fit for human occupancy, leading to contact with the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department and Code Enforcement Officer.Following further inspection, the residence was declared unsafe for human occupancy due to unsanitary conditions and structural concerns. A notice was then posted, prohibiting entry into the property.

Prior to the no-occupancy notice being posted, officers determined that a 38-year-old male, a 38-year-old female and a 19-year-old male had been residing in the home.

Lynn and Larry Bell were taken to the Chippewa County Jail after their arrests.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is aware of a rumor suggesting a person was being held captive at the residence. However, authorities have not found any information to support this rumor at this time.
