MACKINAC ISLAND, MI — Visitors and residents will have a rare opportunity to experience real‑world public‑safety demonstrations up close as the first Youth Search & Rescue Day comes to Mackinac Island during the Lilac Festival weekend, June 12th -14th.
Presented by the Restore the Horse Foundation and generously hosted by the Mackinac Horsemen’s Association, the event brings together Mounted and K9 units from across Michigan for a full day of hands‑on learning, demonstrations, and community engagement.
This year’s program features the Detroit Mounted Police, St. Joseph County Mounted Unit, and the Mackinac Island Police Canine Team, all working together to showcase how horses, dogs, and officers train and respond during emergency situations.
The program teaches leadership, teamwork, horsemanship, and public‑safety skills while strengthening the Island’s long‑standing tradition of service through horses.
