On 9/19/2025, Central Dispatch advised all units that a vehicle had just been reported stolen from Sault Ste Marie, MI. Sault Ste. Marie PD was handling the initial investigation.
A description was given, including the registration plate.
Further information was that the driver was a suspect for a strong-arm robbery and UDAA (Stolen Vehicle). Evidence on scene suggested he may be armed with an assault rifle. The suspect was also described as going through some type of mental episode.
A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located in the Rudyard area. Chippewa Co Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the vehicle fled.
Two Sheriff’s patrol units pursued the suspect from Chippewa County into Mackinac County, where multiple agencies assisted. The suspect reached speeds of 124 mph on I-75; luckily, the traffic in those areas was mostly very light.
The pursuit lasted well over 70 miles. Due to the immediate danger to himself and the public, the pursuit continued and ultimately the suspect was arrested in the St. Ignace area.
