JV Blue Devils take on the Northmen

The Sault High JV Football team traveled to Petoskey last week for a Big North Conference match up. The Northmen played strong, shutting down the Blue Devils’ offensive strategy. The Sault could not keep up with their powerful offense, and a number of penalties hurt the Blue Devils throughout the night.

Sophomore co-captain Marc DeWildt reflected on the game, and plan for the coming week. “I think that the game went good in the defense aspect. The offensive line has to know their plays and their roles. The special teams was unprepared for the game. Next week we have to stick as a team and go 100% on and off the field. The whole team needs to practice hard and get back in the winning mindset. Our defense needs to take a step up on our pass coverage.”

The Blue Devils made it on the board with less than a minute to go when DeWildt crossed the goal line. DeWildt ran the ball again for the successful two point conversion attempt, making the final score Petoskey 48, Sault 8.

“Petoskey came ready to play and we weren’t. Plain and simple. Our youth and inexperience really showed. We also only had one really good practice leading up and it showed in game.” Coach Arnie Hallai noted, “the only time this year where I think we took a small step backwards but us coaches believe in our guys and know they will be more prepared next week for Gaylord.”

The JV team (1-7) will play their last game of the season in Gaylord on Thursday, where the Blue Devils go up against the Blue Devils in one final Big North Conference game.
