Varsity Blue Devils Engage in Defensive Battle

The Sault High Blue Devils Varsity football team headed to Cadillac for their first Big North Conference game of the season against the Vikings. The game was an intense defensive battle between the two teams, with a score of 0-0 at the half. Cadillac was the first team to make the scoreboard in the third quarter, making it 7-0. Early in the fourth quarter, the Vikings scored again, bringing the score to 14-0. The Blue Devils rallied when senior Ryver Ryckeghem ran the ball across the goal line and freshman Aaron McLeod kicked the extra point. They could not get on the board again before time ran out, with the final score being 14-7, Vikings. 

Offensively, senior Callen Campbell had 9 rushes for 46 yards and Ryckeghem had 13 rushes for 45 yards, and one touchdown. On the passing side, Campbell completed 8 out of 16 passes for 123 yards with one interception. Blue Devil receivers in the game were junior Cale Bell with 3 catches for 17 yards, and senior Cam Labadie with 2 catches for 62 yards.

On defense, senior Kaydin Lujan had 13 tackles and a sack; Bell had 7 tackles; Campbell had 3 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 pass deflections; senior Evan Arbic had 2 sacks; Labadie had 3 tackles and a sack; junior Sawyer Kuenzer had 1 sack and a tackle, and senior Ryan TenEyck had 3 tackles and 4 pass breakups. 

This Friday the Sault Blue Devils (2-1) will host the Escanaba Eskymos (1-2) in another Big North Conference match up. Kickoff is at 7:00pm at Van Citters Field.
