The Sault High Blue Devils track teams competed against 15 other teams in northern Michigan Friday afternoon at the Harbor Springs Ram Scram. The boys came in first place with a score of 85 points, while the girls were runners up to Petoskey, with a score of 73 points. Many Blue Devil athletes had a successful afternoon, setting personal records (PRs) in their events. Girls Head Coach Scott Menard reported both teams did very well. “Some of the toughest competition we will probably see all year. The boys and girls both competed well for not having been on a track yet.”
Senior Carter Oshelski had a great day on the track placing fourth in the 100m (11.68), third in the 200m (23.82) and second in the 400m (54.78 – PR). Junior Ryver Ryckeghem also did well, placing second in the 100m (11.46 – PR), and fourth in the 200m (23.93 – PR). In the 800m run, Freshman Gabe Litzner placed fourth (2:09.73 – PR), and senior Logan Haskins placed eighth (2:11.66). Litzner won the 1600m run (4:35.94 – PR) and senior Cody Aldridge placed seventh (4:40.16 – PR). In the 3200m run, Aldridge was the top finisher (10:08.50 – PR) with Litzner right behind him, taking second place (10:10.70 – PR). Sophomore Owen Rice placed seventh in the 300m hurdles (47.95). In the field events, Blue Devil junior Evan Arbic threw 106’06” (PR) to take sixth in the discus. Junior Nate Koepp placed fourth in the high jump (5’06” – PR) and junior Talon Thomas-Holm placed fifth (5’03” – PR). Junior Rayce Rizzo placed sixth in the long jump (17’11.5″).
For the Lady Blue Devils, senior Kenzie Bell placed seventh in the 100m (14.02 – PR) and fifth in the 200m (29.05). In the 400m run, junior Tarynn Pratt placed fourth (1:06.57 – PR), and junior Dayna Szabo placed seventh (1:08.22). Junior Abigail Walther placed fourth in the 800m (2:37.96 – PR). Senior Cassandra Gallagher finished eighth in the 3200m run (13:18.55). Senior Claire Erickson did well in the hurdles, placing fifth in the 100m (18.42) and second in the 300m (51.97). Teammate sophomore Annabelle Fazzari placed fourth in the 100m hurdles (18.22). In the field events, senior Hannah Maurer had a successful afternoon, placing second in both the shot put (33’09” – PR) and discus (93’07.5″ – PR). Senior Ava Donmyer placed fourth in both the shot put (33’02” – PR) and discus (91’05”), and junior Katie Anderson placed eighth in the shot put (30’11.75″ – PR) and third in the discus (91’08”).
Thursday the Blue Devils will travel to Indian River to compete in the Inland Lakes Bulldog Invite.
