JoAnn Hosey

JoAnn Marie (Eliassen) Hosey, 80, of Trout Lake, Michigan, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on September 24, 2022.

JoAnn was born May 3, 1942, in L’Anse, Michigan.  She graduated from West Bloomfield High School in Orchard Lake, Michigan.

Most of JoAnn’s life, she lived in the U.P. where she met her high school sweetheart, Joseph Patrick Hosey.  After their marriage, JoAnn would join him in England where he was stationed in the Air Force.  Eventually, she received her degree in nursing, from Northern Michigan University, of which she was most proud.  JoAnn’s life was all about her husband and family.  She grew in her faith, which became the most important thing in her mind and heart.  JoAnn will be remembered for her hospitality, her church work, along side her husband, and the welcoming arms with which they both opened their home at holiday time for family and friends. 

JoAnn had a beautiful smile and childlike soul.  She will be dearly remembered and missed.

She is survived by her children, Marcee (James) Kargol,  James “Jimmy” Hosey, Michelle Hosey and Melissa “Boo” (Brad) Gustafson; 14 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren, brothers Bud, John, Jim Eliassen and Bill Stone, sisters Marilyn Erfourth, Sue (Steve) Schwerin , and Diane Stone, along with many nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was preceded by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years and her parents Levine Eliassen, Joan of Arc (Chevalier) and Gerald Stone, and infant son, John-Michael and infant great granddaughter, Olivia Kargol.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at 12:00 PM.  Father Nicholas Thompson will officiate at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Care Net Pregnancy Center of the EUP and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
