Sara E. Warren

Sara Warren, formerly Sara Conroy of Farmington, Michigan, died April 29, 2022, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loved ones. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1950 and lived in Farmington most of her adult life.

Sara had a fond interest in antiques. For many years she worked as an antique dealer, selling treasures at shows and from her home, all while raising her family. She later opened a store in downtown Farmington, which had previously been a Shell gas station owned by her husband, Walter Ray. Warren’s Country Corner was located at the corner of Farmington Road and Alta Loma. The quaint country store was a special place well known to Farmington residents for many years. Many remember the shop for its Christmas displays and pot belly stove during the winter months.

Sara’s happiest times were when she could be with all her children and their families together in one place. Sara had a love of nature. In particular, she loved the woods, water, and watching birds. Sara spent as much time as she could at family vacation properties she had worked hard to acquire in Frankfort and Cedarville, Michigan. Sara read voraciously and during her final years of life spent much of her time making trips to the Les Cheneaux Community Library in search of good book!

Sara maintained an optimistic outlook, no matter what came her way. At the age of 19, she began experiencing health challenges that later led to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. She was directed by a family friend and physician to “just go about your life” even with the diagnosis. She took that advice to heart, and never complained or let it bring her down. Sara was fiercely independent and had amazing strength and resilience!

After suffering from strokes in her later years, Sara had to give up her independence and leave her Farmington home. She lived out the last 6 years of her life at Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Cedarville where she received an abundance of love and care. Her son Tom lived close by and helped nourish her love of nature with a room that looked out into a wooded area. She was able to spend her days watching and feeding birds, sand cranes, deer, and a variety of other creatures.

Sara is survived by her children, Rex Conroy (Marie), Bruce Conroy, Tom Conroy (Denise) and Beth Conroy-Tashjian (Anthony), twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Warren: her parents, Richard C. Stuntz and Kathleen Kent Stuntz; her brother, Richard Stuntz; and her sister, Martha Stuntz.

Sara’s family plans to host a celebration of life at a future date.
