Indians fight hard, but drop two to Oakland

The Soo Indians closed out their 2021 calendar year with a road trip to Troy, MI to play the #9 nationally ranked Oakland Jr. Grizzlies in MAHA league action.

In Saturday’s game, the Grizzlies broke out to an early lead and they carried it all the way into the third period before Kole Altergoff scored on a powerplay from Robbie Landis to even the score. Midway through the third, the Grizzlies fought back and regained the lead. With just 4:09 remaining in the game, Colin Goff scored unassisted with a shot over the shoulder over the Grizzlies’ goaltender, basically sending the game into overtime. The Soo had several quality chances to take the win, but just couldn’t close the door. Oakland came back and capitalized on a break to claim the 3-2 overtime victory with 2:58 remaining. Taylor White played outstanding in net but the Indians.

On Sunday, the Indians took the opportunity to jump out in front first when Alex Fruend scored from Grady Coppo. Oakland isn’t ranked #9 for nothing and they fought back and evened the score just two minutes later. Late in the period, they took the lead and added one more goal in each of the final two periods for the 4-1 victory. Cam Labadie also played excellent in goal for the Indians.
