Alan “Grover” McGrover

Alan “Grover” McGrover, 57, passed away on Dec. 07th, 2021. He was preceded in death by father Bradley Grover and mother Roberta Kurtz. Alan loved the outdoors and was a very avid fisherman, hunter, craftsman and lover of nature and animals. From Van Etten, Ny, he later found Upper Michigan as a happy home, where he continued to love nature and always worked hard.

He is survived by his son Lee Grover, sisters Tammy Lesh (husband Darryl), Denise Presher (husband Ron, nieces and nephews Matthew and Michael Mattson and Sydney and Roni Presher), and fiancée Lisa Hedger.

Al really loved listening to and creating music. He had a passion for books, and he took often to creating short stories and writing throughout his life.

Later, homing in on handmade crafts, he was passionate and dedicated to carving, creating walking sticks, and making threadwrap designs. All the hours and development of skills that went into his carving and threadwork are remembered by how proud he really was to share his creations.

Alan enjoyed photography, with nature landscapes and all things wildlife. He had studied at Tompkins Community College in Dryden, NY for photography and for graphic design.

His siblings have memories of growing up with him in Van Etten, where he graduated Spencer Van Etten High School. There was always nature surrounding him, and gardens being grown. All the way through his life he was happy to garden and grow food. He also found affection for many of the cats, rabbits, chickens and other critters that came with life of a rural homestead.

Those that worked with him know that he was always pushing through as a hard worker. Both in career and at home: building, chopping firewood, sustaining and creating. All those close knew that lakes, rivers and streams were some of his favorite places. With his unexpected passing, we celebrate his memories and mourn his loss. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.”
