Angeline Catel Badenski

Angeline Catel Badenski passed away peacefully at Medilodge in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday,November 12, 2021, at the age of 101.

Angie was born on April 18, 1920 in Sault Ste. Marie to James and Fay Catel, the third of five children. Much of her childhood was spent with her grandparents in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, where – she would happily recall – she learned to read and play poker before she even entered Kindergarten. She graduated from Sault High in 1938 and went on to work a variety of jobs throughout the years. She worked at Ford Motor Company in Detroit; at the Chippewa County Health Department, Chippewa County Court, Northwestern Leather Company, Lake Superior State University, and War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie; and at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She was proudest to have been a typing and short hand teacher at Loretto High School for many years.

Between her many jobs and raising her two children, Angie made time to follow her childhood dreams of traveling the world. Some of her favorite travels included a three-month road trip across Europe in her VW Westfalia van with her cousin and younger sister, trips to visit her parents’ homeland of Greece, and her trip across Asia as she returned home from Saudi Arabia. Angie loved to cook and entertain at her cabin in Brimley. She was always ready for a game of backgammon or cards, especially when there was money on the table. She attributed her mental sharpness to her love of crosswords. Angie always wanted to be up on the latest technological trends, learning to use a computer at the age of 80. She was an independent spirit who, in her retirement years, would drive herself down to Florida each winter. She continued to do this until well into her 90s.

Angie is survived by her son, John (Mary) Badenski, and daughter, Connie Boger, both of SaultSte. Marie; five grandchildren – Chrissy Wall, Jimmy (Brooke) Boger, Patrick Boger, Tom (Emily)Badenski, and Kim Badenski; six great grandchildren – Tyler Wall, Kayla, Ashley, Nathan, andMarissa Boger, and Charles Badenski, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers – Stephen (Ethel) Catel and Nicholas(Carol) Catel; two sisters – Anita (Peter) Panos and Pearl (Randall) Savage; and son-in-law, Jim Boger. The family would like to thank the staff of Medilodge for the wonderful care provided to Angie over the last 16 months, all during the difficult times of the pandemic. Honoring Angie’s wishes, there will be no public service held.
