Nancy Reno

Nancy Jane (Knoy) Reno, age 82, of Hessel, Michigan, passed away peacefully, Satur-day, June 26, 2021, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, May 19, 1939, to Clarence Gerald and Ruth Marie (Sullivan) Knoy.

She attended Cedarville High School and graduated in the Class of 1958. Nancy met her husband, Floyd Edwin Reno when they both worked on Mackinac Island. The two married on May 31, 1958, at the Hessel Baptist Church. They made their home in Sault Ste. Marie where they raised their family. Nancy worked for many years as a cook at Soo Township School where she was known for her made-from-scratch rolls and sticky buns. Later she took her skills to Sault Area High School.

Nancy was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as the North Hills Baptist Church in Hessel.

Nancy was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved to bake and cook. Nancy was a sports fan. She loved hockey, basketball and football. Her and her husband attended most local high school sporting events. She also had a love of music, played the piano and played her accordion with the Pickford Pickers. She sang in the church choir for years. Nancy loved working on projects together with her husband Floyd. She was an enthusiastic and joyful person. The kids at Sault High knew her as the fun lunch lady in the commons area. She will be missed by many.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Floyd Edwin Reno; Sons, Archie (Kathy) Reno of Hessel, Michigan, and Floyd Reno of Hessel; Daughter, Ruth (Boe) Gerou. Sister, Vera Harrison of Rudyard; Brother, John “Bill” Knoy of Huntsville, Texas. Grandchildren, Elizabeth (Kara) Reno, Marcelle Mantilla, Gerald (Beth) Burrell, Alexander Reno, Samantha (Jeremiah) Wortz, and Kacie (Ben) Cartwright. Great grandchildren, Mitchell, Trenton, Natallie, Analicia, Dilynne, Adeline, Sullivan, Scarlett, Jairyd, Elijah, Isabella, and Liam. Sisters-in-law, Elaine (Lloyd) Avery of Kansas, Janet (Barry) LeDuc of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Teresa (Ray) Whitmore of Iowa. Brother-in-law, Jim Crawford of Cheboygan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Archie Reno, Luella Reno Walters, and Leonard Walters; brothers-in-law, Gene Harrison and Roger Walters; and sisters-in-law, Henrietta Crawford, Lois (LeRoy) Ormsbee, Reta (Fulford) Lapeer.

Services will be held Friday, July 2, 2021, at Galer Funeral Homes & Cremation, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM followed by burial at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
