Simon Couvier

Simon D. Couvier, 70, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, passed away November 28, 2020 while in the loving care of the EUP Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She was born February 24, 1950 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to Leo and Maggie (Swick) Couvier.

Simon loved traveling. In her early years, she found herself living and working in a ski lodge in Vermont, an insurance company in New York, and a Manpower Agency in Virginia. When she returned to the Sault, she made her life’s work at Chippewa Abstract and Title Company as a title examiner. She worked there for 25 years and retired as office manager.

Simon was a lover of life. She had many interests such as reading, writing poetry, gardening, along with downhill and cross- country skiing. She had a passion for the arts. She started Friends of Folk when she and others brought folk and blues concerts in the 80’s to the Sault Community. She was actively involved in bluegrass festivals, when on weekends she would head out to attend with her clogging board. One of her favorite sayings was, “There are no strangers, just friends you haven’t met yet.”

Simon was happiest when she was in the company of her friends. Christmas was her favorite holiday and when I close my eyes, I can see her decorating the tree and singing deck the halls. She will be sadly missed by her family, relatives, and friends.

Simon is survived by her sisters, Deborah Couvier Alexander, JoAnne (David) Bulson; niece, Dr. Emily Bulson, and nephew, Eric Bulson.

Simon was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Maggie (Swick) Couvier; brother, Joey Couvier, and brother-in-law, George Alexander.

Per Simon’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for Simon will be planned for the summer of 2021. Simon’s final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to, Hospice of the EUP, 308 W. 12th, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Clark Funeral Cremation Burial Services assisted the family with arrangements.
