Timothy Leighton Tischer, age 75, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Sault. He was born on July 7, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Hollis Alton and Josephine Ruth (McGonigal) Tischer.
Tim grew up on Drummond Island and graduated from DeTour High School with the Class of 1969. During high school, he excelled in athletics, competing in track and field and playing football and basketball. During his senior year, Tim broke the U.P. Finals Track & Field record in the pole vault, a record he held for several years. He was also named an All-State end in football his senior year and was part of the basketball team that advanced to the quarterfinals.
After graduating, Tim entered the workforce and began working at Drummond Island Yacht Haven, where he remained for a few years. He later worked at Drummond Dolomite Quarry for a couple of years before being laid off. Tim then returned to the Yacht Haven, where he worked for several more years until an automobile accident left him unable to continue working. Following the accident, Tim was in a coma for more than a month and remained hospitalized for nearly two years before he was able to return home, where his family helped care for him.
Tim was a member of the Drummond Island Lions Club and the Drummond Island Snowmobile Club.
Tim loved watching sports and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan State Spartans. Willie Nelson was his favorite musician, and Tim could sit for hours listening to his music and watching his music videos. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially golfing, snowmobiling, boating, and hunting for birds and deer.
Tim is survived by his brother, Blaine (Karen) Tischer; girlfriend, Mary Goudreau; nephew, Blaine (Gail) Tischer; niece, Amy (Bill) Moser; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Jonathan, Dakota, Holly, Kendall and Drew.
