Obituary For Suzanne Frances Quigley

Suzanne Frances (Cutler) Quigley, age 79, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on October 18, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on December 2, 1946, at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan, to Dr. Garnet Campbell and Frances Loretta (White) Cutler.

Suzanne was raised in Flint, Michigan, and La Jolla, California, and graduated from St. John Vianney School in 1965. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan and went on to receive Master of Arts degrees in Education and Special Education from Northern Michigan University.

Suzanne began her teaching career in Flint before moving to Sault Ste. Marie in 1991, where she continued her career as an educator. Her love of learning extended far beyond the classroom and remained a defining part of her life.

A gifted and extraordinarily versatile artist, Suzanne found joy in creating. Whether behind a camera, at an easel, sketching, sewing, or designing jewelry, she possessed an artistic spirit that was as boundless as her imagination. Her creativity was not simply a pastime, but an essential part of who she was.

An avid reader and enthusiastic world traveler, Suzanne had an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for places both beautiful and unusual. Her travels took her to the far corners of the earth, including Russia, the Ice Hotel in Sweden, and the remote Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard. Her adventures were always shared with her daughter, Katie, her traveling companion and partner in exploration. Together, they collected stories, experiences, and memories that would last a lifetime, including a cherished tradition of annual trips to Salem, Massachusetts.

Suzanne was previously married to Robert Glen McCarthy for thirteen years, and together they welcomed their daughter, Katie. In 2001, Suzanne married Robert “Bob” Quigley, with whom she shared twenty-five wonderful years of love, companionship, laughter, and the company of their beloved dogs.

Those who knew Suzanne will remember her intelligence, quick wit, and fierce independence. She had a spark that was unmistakably her own and a love of learning, creating, and exploring that made life an adventure. Suzanne often joked that she had inherited her spunk from her mother and, in turn, passed it along to her daughter. It was a family trait she wore proudly and one that will undoubtedly live on.

Her adventures were many, her laughter unforgettable, and her spunk, thankfully, hereditary.

Suzanne is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Kathleen “Katie” Suzanne (Dino) McCarthy-Favale; grandchildren, Aedan Robert Campbell Favale, Sean Patrick Favale, Cian Garnet Favale, and Alexander Thomas Hendrix; and siblings, Diane Cutler, Betsy (Jim) Gardiner, and Kathleen (Steve) Leist.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, G. Campbell and Frances.
