Obituaries

Sherral (Jewell) Suarez passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at her home
surrounded by family and close friends at the age of 76. She was born on June 20, 1949, in
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to George and Josephine “Josie” (Polgese) Jewell.

Sherral was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School in
1967. She married Richard in 1971, and following his discharge from the United States Air
Force, the couple moved to New Jersey.

Sherral enjoyed gardening, caring for her pets, and spending time on various crafts. She was an
avid and accomplished quilter who was entirely self-taught. She took great pride in creating
more than twenty quilts for family and friends and maintained an impressive collection of her
own quilts which she proudly displayed throughout her home.

She also enjoyed knitting blankets for wounded veterans in military hospitals, a cause that was
especially meaningful to her. Helping veterans through her knitting brought her great joy and
was one of the many ways she expressed her caring nature.

Christmas was Sherral’s favorite time of the year. She spent days meticulously decorating her
Christmas tree until it was just right, and each year visitors admired the beauty and attention to
the detail she put into her holiday displays.

Sherral began her career in the banking industry, working as an administrative assistant. She
later worked as an administrative assistant for Herman, Yula CPA in Parsippany, New Jersey,
before taking early retirement in the mid-1990s. During retirement, she devoted much of her
time cultivating the gardens surrounding her home and volunteering at a local animal shelter.
Known for her compassion toward animals, she was a dedicated supporter of numerous animal
causes and found great fulfillment in helping animals in need.

Sherral is survived by her loving husband, Richard; her loving son, Graig, sister, Diane (Harold)
Marx; brother, Brad (Kim) Jewell; and her sister-in-law, Kay Jewell.

Sherral was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josie Jewell; and her brother, Scott
Jewell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Sherral on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at
12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM at the Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129 Sault Ste. Marie, MI
49783. A religious service will at 1:00 PM. All are invited to attend and celebrate Sherral’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Sherral’s
memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
