Obituaries

Sandra Adair (McGuire) Thorin, age 76, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on July 12, 2026, at home. She was born on May 30, 1950, in St. Ignace to Patrick and Wanda Joy (Pemble) McGuire.

Sandra Thorin grew up in St. Ignace where she began her education at Ursuline Convent and Academy before graduating from St. Ignace LaSalle High School. She met the love of her life, Curtis Thorin, on what was supposed to be a double date at the Windjammer. As fate would have it, the ladies switched dates, and the rest was history. Sandra and Curtis were united in marriage on June 23, 1973, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace. Together they raised two children while following Curtis during his military service, always doing their best to remain close to the community they loved. After his discharge from the military, they returned home to St. Ignace, where Sandra began a career as a bus driver for LaSalle High School. She faithfully transported generations of students for thirty years. Toward the end of her career, she also drove for the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians before retiring in 2022.

A devoted member of her community, Sandra generously volunteered at the local food pantry, supported the Hope Chest, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to area churches, especially St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church.

Sandra found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved watching westerns on television, tending to her flower gardens, and gathering around the table for card games, especially Uno. She was well known for making what many considered the best dinner rolls around. Above all else, Sandra treasured her family. Her granddaughter, Ameesa, was the light of her life and brought her endless happiness. Sandra also had a memorable story she loved to tell about somehow catching a salmon with nothing more than a baseball bat, a tale that never failed to bring smiles and laughter.

Sandra is survived by her son, Curtis (Pam Anton) Thorin of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Jennifer Thorin of St. Ignace; granddaughter, Ameesa Thorin of Mount Pleasant, Michigan; and her beloved dog, Milo.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; parents, Patrick and Wanda; and sister, Linda Fenwick.

Memorial Mass will be held on July 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 120 Church St, St Ignace, MI 49781, with a gathering to follow.
