Rose Etta Knudsen, age 77, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Hospice of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on April 17, 1949, in Newberry, Michigan, to Richard Knudsen and Violet Jean (Noggles) Knudsen.

Rose lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her children.

Rose will be remembered in her community as a spitfire woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She spent many summers taking part in community yard sales and hunting for hidden treasures in old storage units. She loved gathering around bonfires on long summer evenings and decorating with Christmas lights when winter arrived.

Family was at the center of Rose’s life. She welcomed others into her home with warmth and generosity, especially those in need. In her later years, she became known as, “Mama Rose” and was always ready to share a hot meal, often joking that it was made from, “everything but the kitchen sink.” She enjoyed late-night card games and dice and took pride in caring for and supporting the people around her.

Rose leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion for others.

Rose’s memory lives on through her children, Timothy Roe, Crystal Shields, Joshua Young, and Nicholas Young; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly; and sister, Ida Roe.

Rose was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina (Young) Daniels; grandchildren, Crystal Ann Shields and Chasen Desan Young; parents, Richard and Violet; siblings, Andy Knudsen, Frank Knudsen, David Knudsen, Jim Knudsen, Kenny Knudsen, Denis Winters, and George Winters.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share cherished memories of Rose while enjoying some of her favorite dishes.
