Paul Vernon Shreve, age 59, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly August 1, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. He was born on March 17, 1967, in Rochester, Michigan, to Russell and Carolyn "June" (Potts) Shreve.

Paul grew up in Troy, Michigan, and graduated from Troy High School. Adventurous by nature, he raced in BMX races across multiple states, a journey that reflected his love of the sport. He later attended culinary school for a short while and became a cook at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and Ted's Pub. Paul was a great cook and liked sharing his talent and passion for food with family and friends. He later moved to Orion, Michigan where he started his family and his career.

After settling in Sault Ste. Marie, Paul worked his way up to Team Lead at Walmart, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly personality. Kind-hearted and generous, he was always willing to lend a hand. Paul was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, asking for nothing in return. His compassion, warmth, and selflessness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Above all, Paul cherished every precious moment spent with his children. Some of his happiest moments were camping together, St. Patrick's Day parade's in Detroit, watching Detroit Lions football, cheering on the Detroit Red Wings, and enjoying his favorite movie RAD. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Baxter and Chance, whose loyal companionship brought him great comfort and joy.

Paul is survived by his children, Ava and Finnley Shreve, and special buddy Evan Ross, all of Sault Ste. Marie; his brothers, Bruce (Donna) Blake of Mullikan, Michigan and John (Barbara) Blake, nieces, Britney and Chelsea, all of Hartwell, Georgia; best friend and mother of his children, Rachel LaFaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Lee Shreve and Carolyn "June" Potts.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM

Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's honor to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S. Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783.
