Obituaries

Neicia Alyce (Merrill) LaPlaunt, age 70, of Kincheloe, Michigan, passed away on June 7, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on April 13, 1956, in Lewiston, Maine, to John and Nancy (Bell) Merrill.

Neicia moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in 1973 and met Kevin LaPlaunt. They married on March 21, 1974, and raised two children.

There is not enough space here to fully capture the remarkable life Neicia lived or to name all those who loved her. She was caring, compassionate, and funny like no other, touching countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and sense of humor.

Before and after retiring from Central Savings Bank (after 25 years of service), she enjoyed working part-time at The Oaks at Kincheloe golf course. Neicia loved spending time playing bingo, visiting the casino, golfing, and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. Her love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did, and the memories she created with those she loved will be cherished forever. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Neicia is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Kevin; son, Kurt (Julie) LaPlaunt of Severn, Maryland; daughter, Kari LaPlaunt of Rockford, Michigan; grandchildren, Lucas (Mackenzie) LaPlaunt and Lincoln LaPlaunt; and her siblings, Joyce (Richard) Cox, Becky Merrill, Cindy Vandenberg, Janice (John) Dynes, and Roy (Jodi) Merrill.

Neicia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nancy Merrill; and brother, Delvin Merrill.

Per Neicia’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of a service, please crack open a Bud Light and scratch off an instant lottery ticket in Neicia’s honor.
