Mark Dana Strickland, age 66, of Manistique, Michigan, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Stepping Stone Home in Manistique. He was born on May 22, 1960, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Dana and Ann (Warne) Strickland.

Mark grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and attended the Special Education program in the Sault school system.

Mark had a warm personality that could light up a room. He liked to tease people and had a contagious giggle. He loved radios and especially a big boombox he would carry around or keep next to his chair to listen to. Mark also enjoyed his beloved stuffed animals and usually had one on his lap or tucked under his arm. Mark loved to be read to and had a nice size library of favorite story books.

Mark had a special love of music which brought him much happiness. He also found great joy in reciting nursery rhymes. Mark’s joyful spirit, sense of humor, and ability to bring smiles to those around him will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

When Mark was younger, he was active in the Presbyterian Church.

Twice each week, Mark shared a FaceTime visit with his family. He would also ask the family dog to bark for him. The dog was a willing participant especially with a reward of a doggie treat that she earned for her effort.

A special thanks to the staff of the Stepping Stone Home that was Mark’s home for the past twenty-four years and met all of his needs with care and kindness.

Mark is survived by his sister, Jean (Robert) Sylvestre; nephews, Stephen Sylvestre, Michael (Christine) Sylvestre, and Todd Strickland; niece, Lori Strickland; and great-nephews, Nicholas Sylvestre, Brendan Sylvestre, Isaac Sylvestre and Elijah Sylvestre.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Ann (Warne) Strickland; brother, David Strickland; and niece, Lisa (Strickland) Adkins.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4291 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. The Memorial Service will follow beginning at 2:00 PM.

Mark’s final resting place will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
