Obituary For Leland William McLeod
On July 18, 2026, Leland William McLeod, left this earth after a major cardiac event. He was born in San Jose, California on December 25, 1958, to William and Juanita McLeod. The family moved back to Strongs, Michigan, when he was the age of two and remained a resident the rest of his years.
Lee began his education at the school in Strongs, and graduated from Brimley High School, after the Strongs School closed. Early on he worked as a construction laborer, certified machinist, and heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He eventually joined the Chippewa County Road Commission where he remained for many years. Later in life he was caregiver for his mother until his own health began to fail.
Lee was a man who lived life largely on his own terms. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, trapping, and spent many of his younger years sharing those times with his brother and cousins. He was skilled with his hands and spent much of his life working, wrenching, fixing, and figuring things out—whether it was a tractor, truck, or just about anything else that needed repair.
Those who knew him knew his stubborn and independent nature, along with his knack for giving people a hard time and getting their goat. Beneath that rough-around-the-edges way of his, he was a familiar and important presence in the lives of his family. He spent a great deal of time with his nieces and nephew as they were growing up, leaving them with memories they will carry with them.
He was uniquely himself, and his presence will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Lee is survived by his brother, Mark F. (Judi) McLeod of Strongs; nieces, Katrisha L. McLeod of Dafter, Laurie A. (Bryan) Hower of Oregon, Ohio, and Samantha A. McLeod of Strongs; nephew, William R. McLeod of Horton, Michigan.
Lee never married nor had any children. He is preceded in death by his parents, William G. and Juanita A. (Barens) McLeod of Strongs.
Interment will be at the Coburn Cemetery in Strongs, MI.
Per Leland’s wishes, no services will be held.
Numbers 6:24–26
