Obituary For Kenneth Paul McCrumb

Kenneth “Doc” Paul McCrumb, age 85, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on August 14, 2026, peacefully at his home. He was born on November 5, 1940, in Wacousta, Michigan, to Victor and Leona (Volk) McCrumb.

Ken was raised in Eagle, Michigan, working on his uncle’s farm. He played football, track, baseball, and graduated with the Class of 1958. After high school he attended Michigan State University, earning his degree in veterinary medicine with the class of 1967. He joined Dr. Beachnau, establishing Portland Veterinary Service. In 1990, he and his wife bought Sault Animal Hospital where they practiced until retiring in 2010.

Ken was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Oak Hill Gun Club, Chippewa County Shooting Association, Amateur Trapshooting Association, National Rifle Association, Sault Snowmobile Association, Michigan Veterinary Medicine Association.

Ken enjoyed trapshooting, bowling, hunting, snowmobiling, being at deer camp, playing poker and having a few cold beers. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and college football.

Ken is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Joseph (Jessi) McCrumb of Portland, Michigan, Theresa (Jim) Reichenbach of Bath, Michigan, Willow (Michael) Neel of Marana, Arizona, and Anna (Scott) Hazewinkel of Dafter, Michigan; grandchildren, Brock, Kenna (Juliana), Kylie, James, Reagan, Aiden, Jessica, Autumn, and Naia; great-grandchildren, Katy and Warner; and sisters-in-law, Judy McCrumb of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Judy McCrumb of Middleville, Michigan; as well as his special dog, Gracie.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Leona; and brothers, Lyle and Al.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00PM, at the Sault Snowmobile Association, 1205 W. 9th St., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

In Lieu of flowers, donation may be made in memory of Ken to the Sault Snowmobile Association, 1205 W. 9th St., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, Chippewa County Shooting Association, 6710 S. Ridge Road, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or Helen Ball Hospice, 308 W. 12th Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
