Obituary For James Roger Clegg

James “Jim” Roger Clegg, age 83, of Pickford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 23, 1942, to William “Roy” and Sophie (Zwolinski) Clegg, Jim spent his entire life rooted in the Pickford community.

Jim was raised in Pickford and graduated from Pickford High School with the Class of 1961. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in both Hawaii and Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1966. Jim then worked in the trucking
industry before being hired by the Chippewa County Road Commission, where he retired as foreman after twenty-three years of service.

On June 6, 1970, Jim married his love, Gloria Hanna, and together they raised three children.

Jim loved being home. Whether it was cutting the grass, refinishing a wood project in the garage, sitting on the deck to watch the birds or visiting with family and friends, home was his favorite place to be.

Jim was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. A piece of him will continue to shine through in the things he taught them: never give up, work hard, and treat others with kindness. These things were not taught through words, but rather by how he lived.

Jim is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Gloria Clegg; three children, Mark (Danielle) Clegg, Pam (Dan) Doran, and Brad (Heather) Clegg; six grandchildren, Duncan, John, Connor, Carter, Chloe, and Atticus; two great-grandchildren, Silas and Scarlett; brother, Bill (Linda) Clegg; and brother-in-law, David (Robin) Hanna.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Sophie; sisters, Muriel (Marvin) Tassier and Joyce Boc; and brother, Duane (Donna) Clegg.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pickford Global Methodist Church, 115 E. Church St., Pickford, MI 49774. A Celebration of Life service will follow beginning at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pickford Global Methodist Church, 115 E. Church St., Pickford, MI 49774, or the American Legion Pickford Post, P.O. Box 563, Pickford, MI 49774.
