James Alfred Fleming, age 69, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was born on November 16, 1956, in St. Ignace, Michigan, to Gerald and Barbara (Deroscher) Fleming.

Jim grew up in Clio, Michigan, and graduated from Clio High School with the Class of 1974. During high school he participated in basketball, wrestling, baseball and hockey and was a talented all-around athlete. He attended Michigan Tech and later served in the United States Air Force. In 1981, Jim returned to Michigan and began his career as a carpenter.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time outdoors in nature. He especially loved spending time with family at the hunting camp in Cedarville, Michigan, which he designed and helped build

Jim is survived by his son, Matt (Lisa) Fleming of Brimley, Michigan, daughters, Lindsay (Tim) Carpenter of Howell, Michigan, Nicole Fleming of Saginaw, Michigan, and Jayme Fleming of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren, Maeve, Haydn, Josie, Eloise Carpenter, Eden, Asher and Ana Fleming; sisters, Lavona (Greg) Gurley of Presque Isle, Michigan, Jamis (Bill) Buckingham of Jackson, Michigan, Patricia (Brian) Fogg of Saginaw, Joan Fleming of Jackson, Michigan, Alice Norris of Caledonia, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Angela Fleming of Flushing, Michigan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Barbara; and brother, Norman Fleming.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Family Life Funeral Homes, 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, MI 49774. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM.
