Obituary For Jacob Otto Weiss, Jr
Jacob “Sonny” Otto Weiss Jr., age 76, of St. Ignace, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 17, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1950, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Jacob and Rose Ellen (Movalson) Weiss of Allenville, Michigan.
Sonny graduated from Rudyard High School. He married the love of his life, Mary Anne Davis, on November 28, 1987.
As a young boy, Sonny rode his pedal bike and delivered the GRIT newspaper. He also enjoyed working on muscle cars and selling them. Together, he and Mary built a lifelong career of buying and selling cars.
Sonny was a fierce competitor at the arm-wrestling table, winning numerous competitions. His other hobbies included owning and riding horses, riding his motorcycle with his kids in the sidecar, watching western movies, having campfires, attending his children’s sporting events, telling jokes, and cutting and splitting semi-loads of wood.
Sonny brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He could rarely make it through a joke without breaking into one of his famous belly laughs and laughing too hard to finish the punchline. He loved to talk and would invite anyone and everyone to his home to sit around a campfire. He is remembered for his infectious laugh, his sense of humor, his knowledge of cars, and, above all, his love for his family.
Sonny is survived by his wife Mary; daughter, Rebecca (Cody) Christman; son, Jake (Sarah) Weiss; sisters, Ruby (Jim) Allen and Linda (Vern) Dotts; brother-in-law, Rick Weber; grandchildren, Kayden, Khloe, Emma, and Otto; and several nieces and nephews.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Rose Ellen Weiss; and sister, Gloria Weber.
Per Sonny’s wishes, no services will be held.
Sonny's final resting place will be Brevort Township Cemetery in Moran, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter.
The campfires may grow quiet, but the stories, laughter, and memories Sonny created will continue to bring comfort for years to come.
