Obituaries

Harold Donald McKenzie, age 82, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on March 20,
2026. He was born on December 8, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Lester and Ruth (Ellis) McKenzie.

On June 28, 1969, he married Catherine Brown at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Harold liked to pass the time watching hockey & game shows, puzzles, ice fishing, mowing the
lawn, and chatting on the phone with his good friend George, they kept each other informed of all the gossip!

Harold was currently employed at Pine Grove Cemetery and over the years worked with a
multitude of people that he enjoyed getting to know. Especially lan Wilson and Tom Thoresen.

Harold is survived by two daughters, Liz (Shawn) Bowerman and Julie (Chandler) French;
grandchildren, Tyler Trumbley, Taylor (Duck) DuVall, and Alex (Maddie Hoornstra) French;
great-grandchildren, Ducky and Archer DuVall; brother, Lyle McKenzie of Gladstone, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Dolores McKenzie of Sault Ste. Marie, Georgine McKenzie of Escanaba, Michigan, and Sue McKenzie DuRoy of Columbus, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ruth; wife, Catherine (Brown) McKenzie; brothers, Lawrence McKenzie of Sault Ste. Marie, and Gene McKenzie of Gladstone; and sister-in-law, Barb (Bill) Clark.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Pine Grove Cemetery located at the corner of S. Mackinac Trail and W. 6 Mile Road in Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with Father Dominic Y. Afrifa officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Soo Township Hall, 369 3 1/2 Mile Road Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harolds honor to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S Mackinac Trail Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or St. Kateri Tekakwitha 12014 W Lakeshore Drive Bay Mills, MI 49715.
