Harold Donald McKenzie, age 82, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on March 20, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Lester and Ruth (Ellis) McKenzie.

Harold grew up in Sault Ste. Marie. At the age of 25, he met and married the love of his life, Catherine Brown, on June 28, 1969, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together, they started their family and had two beautiful daughters.

Harold was currently employed at Pine Grove Cemetery. Over the years, he worked with a multitude of people that he enjoyed getting to know, especially Ian Wilson and Tom Thoresen.

Harold enjoyed spending his time watching hockey and game shows, working on puzzles, and going ice fishing whenever he had the chance. He also took great pride in keeping his lawn looking its best. Harold enjoyed chatting on the phone with his good friend George, and together they kept each other informed of all the latest gossip.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Liz (Shawn) Bowerman of Dafter, Michigan, and Julie (Chandler) French of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Tyler Trumbley, Taylor (Duck) DuVall, and Alex (Maddie Hoornstra) French; great-grandchildren, Ducky DuVall and Archer DuVall; brother, Lyle McKenzie of Gladstone, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Dolores Mckenzie of Sault Ste. Marie, Georgine McKenzie of Escanaba, Michigan, and Sue McKenzie DuRoy of Columbus, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; parents, Lester and Ruth; brothers, Lawrence McKenzie and Gene McKenzie; and sister-in-law, Barb (Bill) Clark.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday June 20, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM with Father Dominic Yamoah officiating, at Pine Grove Cemetery, located at the intersection of S. Mackinac Trail and W. 6 Mile Rd in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after at the Sault Township Hall, 369 3 ½ Mile Rd., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Harold’s honor to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S. Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 12014 W. Lakeshore Dr., Bay Mills, MI 49715.
