George Robert Freeborn II, age 79, of Brimley, Michigan, died on Monday, May 11, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Sault. He was born on January 3, 1947, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to George and Bertha (McKinley) Freeborn.

George grew up in Brimley and graduated from Brimley High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After four years of service, he received an honorable discharge. George later worked as a laborer before becoming a custodian at Lake Superior State University. He retired in 2002 after 12 years of dedicated service.

George enjoyed working on the family farm and was an avid outdoorsman. He especially loved hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden.

George is survived by his wife, Delores (Hawkins) Freeborn, daughter, Beth Pershinske; son, George Freeborn; grandchildren, Danny Ballard, Angel Ballard, Brea Ballard, Aeden Pershinske and Emelia Pershinske; brother, Keith Freeborn; and sister, Darlene Thompson.

George was preceded in death by his daughter, Teena Ballard; parents, George and Bertha; brother, Andrew “Ed” Freeborn; sister, Shirley Schwiderson; and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Thompson.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, 15264 M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
