Lifelong area resident Frederick Robert Taylor, 83, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Christensen’s Tender Loving Care AFC in Newberry, with his family at his side.

Born October 29, 1942, in Newberry, Fred was the son of the late Melvin and Mary (Brow) Taylor. He attended the Mark’s and Smather’s Schools in Lakefield and grew up with a deep connection to the community and the outdoors that surrounded him.

Throughout his life, Fred worked in several roles, including spending many years as a woodsman alongside his father. He took great pride in hard work and in the simple, steady rhythm of life in the U.P. Fred especially enjoyed time with his family, attending the U.P. Fair—where he loved the animal and farming exhibits—and being outdoors whenever he could.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Taylor.

He is survived by his siblings Lana (Wayne) Dunlap of McMillan, Shirley (Robert) Hokkanen of Newberry, Susan (Martin) Kearney of Redwood City, California, and Steve (Patsy) Taylor of McMillan; along with several nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

A private family graveside service will be held at the East Lakefield Township Cemetery.
