Obituaries

Evelyn Elizabeth Brehm, age 94, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on May 18, 2026, at Mackinac Straits in St. Ignace, Michigan, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born March 6, 1932, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to Clarence and Florence (Gale) Clark.

Evelyn grew up in Hazel Park and graduated from Hazel Park High School. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a switchboard operator and later at a movie theater. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gerald, at her sister’s wedding. The two were united in marriage in 1954 and soon began raising their four children together, while Evelyn lovingly devoted herself to being a homemaker.

Evelyn worked for H&R Block preparing taxes until Gerald’s retirement. In 1981, Evelyn and her family moved to Brimley, Michigan, where she served as treasurer for Bay Mills. She also dedicated much of her time volunteering to help individuals with special needs.

Evelyn was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Brimley.

Evelyn had a love for adventure and especially enjoyed camping with her family. She also enjoyed softball, golf, and bowling. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Evelyn had a creative spirit and enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughter, Cindy, as well as refinishing furniture.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” (Phil) VanSloten of Brimley, Michigan; sons, Frank Brehm of Monocle Lake, Michigan, Robert (Karen Goeschel) Brehm of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Daniel (Sally) Brehm of Brimley, Michigan; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Tusai of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, Clarence and Florence; brothers, Frank Clark and Raymond Clark; and sisters, Dorothy Seymour and Gertrude Murray.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at the First Congregational Church of Brimley, 6984 M-221, Brimley, MI 49715. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM with the burial to follow.

Evelyn’s final resting place will be at Mission Hill Cemetery in Brimley, Michigan.
