Obituaries

Audrey Anne (Bourque) Johnson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on
April 20, 2026, just six days shy of her 90th birthday. She had recently celebrated her 67th
wedding anniversary with her devoted husband, James A. Johnson.

Audrey’s life was centered on love and care for her family. Together, Jim and Audrey chose for
her to remain at home to raise their children, a role she embraced with dedication and warmth.
She was a loving mother to Pamela Honkanen, James M. (Lee) Johnson, and Christopher (Jamie)
Johnson.

Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren, Andrea (Dan) Eves, Ashley (Nate) Ward,
Matthew Johnson, and Claire Johnson. Audreys’ face lit up most brightly in the presence of her
great-grandchildren, Connor, Corinne, Cate, Lyla, and Aurora, who brought her endless happiness. She also treasured time spent with her many nieces and nephews, who often traveled great distances to visit their beloved Aunt Audrey.

Audrey found purpose beyond her home through her volunteer work with St. Joseph’s Thrift Shop and the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she formed lasting friendships while serving her community.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her son-in-law, Michael Honkanen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 606 E. 4th Ave.
Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, beginning at 9:00 A.M., with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to The Merlin Home, 1703 Hyde St.,
Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

Audrey will be remembered for her kindness, her selflessness, and the deep love she shared with
her family. Her legacy lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
