Obituary For Arnold Frederick Frazier

Arnold Frederick Frazier, age 91, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away after a brief illness on August 22, 2026. He was born on June 10, 1935, in Epoufette, Michigan, to parents Charles and Isabel (Bellant) Frazier. Arnold grew up in Evergreen Shores and graduated from LaSalle High School, St. Ignace, Michigan.

Arnold began his career with the Michigan Department of Transportation, crewing car ferries before the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. In 1958, he married Lorraine Lowetz of Moran, Michigan, and they began their family. Relocating to Iron River, Michigan, Arnold worked as a highway inspector while they raised their four children. Arnold finished his 33-year career in Naubinway, Michigan, where he and Lorraine had a home on Lake Michigan. Following his retirement in 1990, Arnold followed a family tradition and participated in commercial gill net fishing on Lake Michigan.

Arnold was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Naubinway, Michigan. Arnold was also a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and took an active role as a Tribal Elder. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed baseball and coaching.

Arnold and Lorraine were married for over sixty years and shared a love of traveling. Together, they visited Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Italy, Canada, the Panama Canal and most of the continental United States. When at home on Lake Michigan, they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Arnold was well known for his humor and storytelling.

Arnold is survived by his four children, Julie Frazier of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Patrick (Margaret) Frazier of Trout Lake, Michigan, Karen (James Teasdale) Frazier of Lansing, Michigan, and Edward (Kelly) Frazier of Kingsford, Michigan; grandchildren, Charyl (Joe) Mehring, Alison Rewa, Amanda (Scott) Virden, Kristy (Kelly) Morrison, Kaitlin Frazier, Sara (Josh) Gallagher, and Matthew Frazier; great-grandchildren include, Gideon, Evangeline, Liam, Maya, Zelda, and Walter; siblings, Marlene Grondin, Kathy Lawnichak, Dee Frazier all of St. Ignace, Michigan, and Ronald Frazier of Epoufette, Michigan.

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, parents, Charles and Isabel Frazier; brother, Charles Frazier; and grandson-in-law, Aaron Rewa.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 120 Church St. St Ignace, MI 49781. Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately at 11:00 AM, with luncheon following. Arnold and Lorraine will be laid to rest together at Naubinway Cemetery at 3:00 PM. A Celebration of Life honoring both Arnold and Lorraine will be held that evening at 6:00 PM at the Moose Lodge, 2999 Mackinac Trail, St. Ignace, MI 49781.
