On July 14, 2026, after an attempted traffic stop by Gogebic County Deputies, the suspect fled in a vehicle leading deputies on a pursuit. The pursuit was eventually terminated, however, a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Wakefield Post had set up on M-28 in Ontonagon County near Bergland to potentially deploy stop-sticks on the suspect vehicle if the pursuit had
come in his direction.
After the pursuit was terminated by deputies, the trooper went to retrieve the stop-sticks fromthe roadway. When doing so, the suspect appeared driving eastbound on M-28 at a high rate of speed. As the suspect approached, he changed lanes and drove directly towards the trooper at a very high rate of speed, seemingly trying to hit the trooper with his vehicle. The trooper was
able to avoid being hit by running down the embankment near the shoulder of the highway. The vehicle proceeded eastbound on M-28 and went out of sight.
Later, on July 14, 2026, MSP and assisting law enforcement searched for the suspect in Bergland Township after information was received that the suspect may be in that area. The suspect was not initially located.
On July 16, 2026, MSP received information that the suspect may be in the L’Anse Township area. Through further investigation, it was found that the suspect had broken into an unoccupied cabin in L’Anse Township near US-41 and Dog Patch Road. MSP personnel responded and were able to safely take the suspect into custody while he was still inside the cabin. While the suspect had been at the cabin property, he allegedly damaged property by cutting a garden hose in an attempt to siphon gasoline from an ORV and damaged a cabin window when breaking in. The suspect also had a firearm, which resulted in an additional criminal charge.
The suspect was lodged in the Baraga County Jail. On July 17, 2026, 22-year-old Daniel Allard from Woodridge, Illinois was arraigned in the 97th District Court on charges of First-Degree Home Invasion, Carrying Concealed Weapon, and Malicious Destruction of Property less than $200. His bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety, and his next court date is set for August 4, 2026.
The suspect faces additional charges that have been issued in Ontonagon County for Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer. Charges are also being sought in Gogebic County for Fleeing and Eluding from the Gogebic County deputies. The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
