A Lot Going On

Hello everyone. Maverick here with another edition of “Cat Tales.” It’s been a busy time for my mom and me. I saw my doctor the other day, and I gained another half pound, the same as last month, so right now I am where I should be. That’s good news. The results of my blood work showed that I needed to have my thyroid meds adjusted again. Now I get a half pill in the morning and a whole one at night. And remember how I have always said that my mom and I are like two peas in a pod. Well, now I’m anemic like my mom. The doctor believes it’s because of my kidneys. I got my rabies vaccine too, and I go back at the end of May to be rechecked. The doctor suggested that I get put on a supplement for my arthritis. My mom is going to look into that for me and probably add it to my Chewy order.

The people at Chewy are so nice. I had just received 3 or 4 cases of my cat food a couple of months ago, but when it was found out that I had kidney disease, my mom had to order a new kind. Chewy gave my mom credit for those four cases that I couldn’t use anymore and told her to donate it. So she did that yesterday.

My mom had her nerve endings burned in her lower back. It seems to be working. She is having her knee replaced soon. I asked her what it’s being replaced with, and she said cobalt and plastic. It’s hard to wrap my mind around that. I have so many questions pertaining to her surgery. She’s supposed to stay in the hospital one night, and then be released. I thought she was going to a body shop to get a new knee. I had her pictured being hoisted in the air like a car, where she would get her new knee put on. I know I have said this many times, but in my opinion, that body shop is selling her too many parts. She already has 4 screws and two plates in her. I don’t think I’ll recognize her anymore.

I am not looking forward to being alone for that one night, while she’s in the hospital, but a friend will come feed me that evening and the next morning, and give me my thyroid meds. But I’m wondering if I am going to be able to snuggle with my mom when she gets home. I have so many thoughts and questions about all of this that it’s driving me a little nuts, but we’re both keeping very busy so we can keep our mind off everything. My mom has a lot to do before her surgery.

The other day, she went to urgent care where the hospital has a lab and PT. She needed an EKG, chest x-ray, and blood work. She found out she couldn’t get all the blood work done. She needs to have blood drawn three days before surgery so that they have the right type of blood to put in a refrigerator in case she needs to have blood during the surgery. I hope she doesn’t have to have blood. That sounds like an extra day in the hospital, and I don’t want to be alone anymore than I have too. Plus, I know my mom, she’d be so worried about me. We’re both used to being together all the time. We work, play, and snuggle together.

After my mom’s procedure on her back she woke up nauseous from the medicine they gave her. They gave her ginger ale and saltines in the hospital which helped, but she hadn’t eaten in 18 hours. Her friends took her to a place that served all day breakfast afterwards. She remembers being there, but she was fuzzy in her thinking. She was able to eat most of her breakfast though, and she felt much better after that. My mom had three surgeries last year, and now she doesn’t have any taste or smell. She’s been having a difficult time eating.

Next week before her knee replacement she will get some trigger point shots for her middle and upper back and neck. She’s in pain constantly, but she is so glad she had the nerves burned in her lower back because that is doing better.

We’ve been getting some really bad storms where my mom and I are living now. The other night, the tornado sirens went off, so we went into the walk-in closet where there are no windows. The sirens went off about 30 minutes later, but the storms lasted through the night. It was 80 degrees earlier that day, and that night it went down to 32 degrees. We would much rather be in the U.P. with snow then with tornados and wicked storms. It’s after 8:00 p.m. and it’s in the 70s, and it’s only going down to the 60s. Someone, please send us some cooler weather.

Spaghetti Betty has been sending me more pics of her show that she had out in California that I told you about in my last blog. She’s back home, but she is super busy. There were quite a few buyers there who loved her designs, so she has lots of orders to fill. She especially loved the model in the pic above. She said the model should be an actress because she stole the show. Everybody loved her. That is a great pic.

In other news, there’s a book I think that you should read, and it’s called “I Really Want to be a Cat,” by Helen Hancocks. It’s about a girl who wishes she could be a cat. I can’t stress enough how important reading is. My mom and I are so thankful for libraries knowing that wherever we live there is one close by. My mom and I go online and browse the books at our local library, and we keep an ongoing list of books we want to read. Then the library sends us an email when they’re ready to pick up. For us, it saves time to browse at our convenience. We do a lot of stuff online like shopping for groceries, too.

Cat Jokes

What’s a cat’s favorite treat? – A mice cream cone.

Fun Facts

Did you know kittens are born blind and deaf? They are highly dependent on their mothers during the first few weeks of life. Their eyes and ears begin to open around 7 to 10 days after birth, and they start to become more active and aware of their surroundings.

Cats have specialized teeth for hunting. A cat’s teeth are designed for catching and eating meat. Their sharp, pointed teeth help them tear through flesh, and their molars are used for grinding up smaller bits of prey. These specialized teeth make them highly efficient predators.

Cats purr for more than just contentment. While it’s commonly believed that cats purr simply when they’re content, the truth is more complex. Cats also purr when they’re stressed, frightened, or even in pain. Some studies suggest that purring has a healing frequency, which helps to reduce stress and promote healing in cats.

Okay, that’s it for this month’s “Cat Tales.” Next month I’ll be able to update you on how my mom’s surgery went, and if we’re able to snuggle. Until then, have a good rest of the month. Stay safe and healthy.
