Young man from Drummond Island dies in traffic crash

On 5-26-2025 at 2048 hours Chippewa County Central Dispatch received a 911 call about a traffic crash on Drummond Island.
 
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
 
Once on scene Deputies found a Chevy Impala had left the roadway and struck a culvert. The vehicle then crashed into the trees.
The crash occurred on Warners Cove, Drummond Island Mi.
 
A Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office accident investigator was called to the scene.
The driver and passenger in the vehicle were young men from Drummond Island.
 
Preliminary results show that Alcohol and Excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
Both young men were transported from the scene however the driver did not survive the crash. The passenger sustained life-threatening injuries.
 
Neither men appear to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Drummond Island Fire/Ems, Central Dispatch and The Chippewa Co Sheriff’s Office VSU.
