Chippewa County Commissioner Scott Shackleton and Sheriff Mike Bitnar have set Saturday, December 7th as the date for the annual food drive. This will be the 26th year of the event which has become an annual tradition.
“We live in a very generous community,” said Bitnar, “and there are always families out there that could use a bit of help.”
The annual event runs from 9am-5pm in the parking lots at Pat’s Foods and Walmart. New this year, a third location is being added. Northern Sand and Gravel parking lot, just outside of Meijer, will provide a convenient drop-off spot for people shopping in that area. People need only look for a sheriff
vehicle as many deputies from the sheriff’s department donate their time to help collect donations.
“Not only is food welcome,” Shackleton said, “but new toys as well. All donations stay in our area and help local families.” This annual event has collected tons of food over the years. Donations are distributed to the needy through the Salvation Army.
Anyone wishing to contribute can drop off frozen turkeys or hams, non- perishable foods, new toys, or checks made out to the Salvation Army.
Volunteers will be on hand at all three locations to collect donations. If you would like your donation picked up, call 906 635-6390.
