Soo Indians take two from the Soo Jr Greyhounds

The Soo Indians played a home-and-home with their counterpart from Sault, Ontario – the Soo Jr Greyhounds this past weekend and walked away with two victories, increasing their season record to 5-2

In the first match of the cross boarder series the Indians came out on top 4-3.  Evan Hoglund opened the scoring tipping a pass from Deven Jones-McDonald and Jordan Murray for the early lead midway through the first period.  Carter Huckson buried a rebound off a shot from Jarret Crimin for the 2-0, then added his second of the game late in the period for a 3-0 lead.  The Jr. Greyhounds got on the board in the second, then added a second goal to send the teams to the third period with a score of 3-2 in favor of the Indians.  Early in the third the Greyhounds capitalized on a turn off to tie the game 3-3, but with 58 seconds remaining Tyler Neveau scored on a shot from the point, assisted by Carter Huckson and Crimin, which turn into the game winning goal as the game ended 4-3.  Isiah Anderson played excellent in net for the Indians to get the win.

The Indians traveled north across the border Sunday afternoon for the weekend rematch against the Jr. Greyhounds at the Rhodes Arena.  The Jr. Greyhounds got on the scoreboard first late in the opening period, but with 1:40 remaining in the period Wyatt Fischer beat their netminder after Carter Huckson won the offensive zone draw to even the score.  In the second period the Indians added two more goals, first Deven Jones-McDonald scored off a pass from Jordan Murray, then Evan Hoglund lit the lamp from Jones-McDonald and Murray for a two lead at the end of two periods.  In the third the Indians continued to score as Jordan Murray got his first of two goals, assisted by Jones-McDonald and Hoglund, then scored again from Hoglund.  The final goal of the game came as a shorthanded one when Treyce Moran muscled the puck out of zone to an open Carter Huckson who went in on a breakaway and beat their netminder for the Indians sixth goal.  Nathan Maguire played excellent in the net for the Indians earning the win.

The Indians will now head back on the road to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to compete in Tier 1 Hockey Federation Showcase.
