Tough Competition for Blue Devils Track and Field in Tri-Meet

Coming off of a win for the boys team and runner up honors for the girls team in the recent Harbor Springs Ram Scram, both teams put forth a good effort in a Tri-meet on Monday against some tough competitors from Petoskey and Traverse City Central. For the boys, the 4×800 relay came in first place, with a time of 11:14.81. The winning relay team included Evan Huyck, Anthony Gerrish, Owen O’Connor, and Isaac Brindley. Owen Rice placed fourth in the 300m hurdles, with a time of 48.47. The bulk of the boys’ team points came from their success in the field events. Evan Arbic placed second in both shot put (34’04.5) and discus (111’04.5 – PR), and Walter Anderson placed fourth in shot put (32’08.5). Rayce Rizzo was the runner up in pole vault (11’06) and Talon Thomas-Holm placed fourth in high jump (5’04 – PR). 

The girls’ team put up a good effort as well. The 4×100 relay team of Mackenzie Bell, Tarynn Pratt, Isabella DeWildt, and Bella Smith earned a third place finish with a time of 55.57. The same relay team came in second in the 4×200 with a time of 1:56.75. DeWildt, Dayna Szabo, Ava Mayer and Pratt won the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:49.95. The Lady Blue Devils also won the 4×800 relay with a time of 11:49.47, thanks to the combined efforts of Cassandra Gallagher, Calla Armstrong, Abigail Walther, and Szabo. Szabo came in fourth in the 400m (1:10.40) while Gallagher (6:11), Armstrong (6:40.15), and Elise Proulx (6:42.68) finished second, third and fourth in the 1600m run. In the shot put, Hannah Maurer threw 31’01.5 to win the event. Teammate Ava Donmyer threw 28’07.5 to earn third place. The Lady Blue Devils swept the discus event, each earning a PR, with Donmyer with the winning throw of 95’10.25, Maurer took second throwing 94’10.5, and Kiryanna Cordes grabbed third with a throw of 62’02. Lastly, in high jump, Danielle Osborn took fourth with a 4’02 jump.
